A resplendent Rococo ring, dating from around 1750, captures the whimsical grace of the late Baroque period. Crafted in 18-carat yellow gold, this piece illustrates the era's taste for asymmetry and ornamental natural motifs, with 15 old brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approximately 1.50 carats. The enameling technique employed attests to the craftsmanship of the time, imbuing this exquisite ring with a rich, colorful history, all preserved in excellent condition.

Style:
Rococo - Rococo (more rarely roccoco), also called "late Baroque," is an 18th-century style that developed when Baroque artists abandoned symmetry in favor of an increasingly ornamental, flowery, and playful approach. Rococo pieces were designed as total works of art, with elegant and ornate furniture, small sculptures, decorative mirrors, and tapestries complementing architecture, reliefs, and murals. It was largely supplanted by the Neoclassical style. In 1835, the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française specified that the word rococo "generally designates the type of ornament, style, and motif associated with the reign of Louis XV and the beginning of that of Louis XVI." It thus encompasses all types of art produced around the middle of the 18th century in France.

Stylistic features:
Rococo is a decorative style that succeeded, around 1730, the Baroque style in France (where it was also called rocaille). Its main characteristics are the asymmetry of ornaments and a repertoire composed largely of rockwork, shells, flowers, foliage, and scrolls. It was developed in France under Louis XV (1715-1774) and spread to Italy, Germany, and Austria, and to a lesser extent to England.

Technique:
Enameling is an ancient and widely used technique. The Egyptians of Antiquity applied enamels to pottery and stone objects. The Greeks, Celts, Russians, and Chinese of Antiquity also used enameling processes on metal objects. Enamel is the colorful result of fusing powdered glass onto a substrate by firing, generally between 750 and 850 °C. The powder melts, flows, and hardens to form a smooth and durable glassy coating on metal, glass, or ceramic. According to some sources, the word enamel comes from the High German "smelzan" (to melt) via Old French "esmail." Used as a noun, "an enamel" refers to a generally small decorative object, covered with a layer of enamel, such as a champlevé or cloisonné (different techniques).
