The pendant measures 1 3/4" x 3/8", not including the teardrop bail which measures 5.5 x 10mm. The deposit is marked as 14k. Around the 1940s.
Carved from opal, this magnificent Figa pendant sparkles in the sun. The closed fist with a thumb extended between two fingers is a symbol of femininity in many cultures. Most notoriously, the Figa is worn as a lucky talisman in Brazil. It is said to store luck and offer protection against the evil eye. The tradition dates back to Etruscan times, where Figa symbolized the female genitalia.
