Antique Victorian earrings in yellow gold and enamel
Elegant pair of antique Victorian enamel earrings, made of 18-carat yellow gold (circa 1870 to 1880).
These hand-painted enamel miniatures, of remarkable realism, depict the profile of a woman. Pressed gold leaf finishes on the hair and clothing add a subtle glow to the portraits, which appear to be wearing armor, or perhaps embellishing an elaborate costume. Smaller in size, the earrings measure 15 mm x 12 mm (0.59 x 0.47 inch). They are fitted with butterfly backs and posts for pierced ears (added later).
The earrings are in good original condition, with visible patina. We have not cleaned them in order to preserve their patina and collectible value.

Metal and hallmark: 18-carat yellow gold. The earrings are not hallmarked, although they have tested positive for 18-carat gold. The posts and butterfly backs are in 14-carat gold (tested) and were added later.
