Gold nugget bar link necklace
Acquired on a recent trip to Ketchikan, where gold mining is still active in the state of Alaska. This is a vintage piece from the 1970s, comprised of 1/2" bar links that alternate with small nuggets of natural gold. The nuggets are held on the chain with open jump rings and an oval link, creating a lovely rhythmic pattern and providing an organic, glitter-like shine to the necklace.
Everything in this necklace is 14k gold except for the gold nuggets. Nuggets range from 20 carats to 24 carats. Very wearable at 18 1/2" in length, this necklace looks beautiful when layered with other chains as it adds visual texture and rhythm to the neckline. The chain weighs 8.57 grams and has a clasp with spring ring.
