This lovely Egyptian Revival ring dates from the Victorian era. Its wire body is reminiscent of the scarab rings of the time.

This ring swivels, allowing it to be turned over to see the underside of the pearl, a valuable asset. The scarab pearl is mounted in gold and surrounded by a twisted wire.

The scarab is made of earthenware, a self-drying clay. The copper in the glaze gives it a turquoise color, and the glaze forms in the hollows. The carved back of the scarab depicts what appears to be a kneeling Egyptian goddess.

The exact age of this pearl is unknown; it could date from the Egyptian Revival period of the 1880s or be an ancient pearl. It is now in perfect condition.

The face of the ring measures 1.27 cm x 1.22 cm. It weighs 3.7 grams. Unmarked, it has been acid tested to be 14 karat gold.

Ring size: 7.25. Thanks to its shape, it fits sizes 7 to 7.5.
