Vacheron & Constantin
Jewelry watch for Chaumet Paris in 18-carat 750/1000 yellow gold and diamonds, circa 1980.
Some watches tell the story of an era. This one tells the story of the meeting of two of the greatest houses of European luxury.
Produced by Vacheron & Constantin for Chaumet Paris around 1980, this elegant watch belongs to a period during which the Geneva manufacture created exclusive pieces for the prestigious jeweler of Place Vendôme.
At that time, Chaumet was developing its watchmaking department by collaborating with the greatest Swiss manufactures in order to offer its clientele watches combining the highest standards of fine watchmaking and high jewelry.
Its elegant tonneau-shaped case in 18-carat yellow gold is entirely set with brilliant-cut diamonds. Its pure, architectural lines are enhanced by a refined satin-finished champagne dial, without hour markers, simply branded Vacheron & Constantin Genève and Chaumet.
This rare double signature bears witness to the privileged relationship between the two houses and is today particularly sought after by collectors of vintage fine watchmaking.
This watch perfectly embodies the elegance of the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the wristwatch was becoming a true piece of jewelry without ever renouncing the mechanical excellence for which one of the world's most prestigious manufactures is renowned.
It is powered by the ultra-thin hand-wound Vacheron & Constantin K1014 caliber, derived from the famous Jaeger-LeCoultre 818, renowned for its reliability, the refinement of its construction, and its exceptional thinness.
This example is presented in excellent state of preservation.
The case has retained very beautiful proportions, the satin-finished champagne dial is perfectly preserved, and the gem-setting remains even and particularly radiant.
The watch will be delivered on a new Camille Fournet alligator strap, accompanied by its 18-carat yellow gold pin buckle.
It is also accompanied by its original Chaumet box, a set that has become particularly rare more than forty years after its release.
Finally, the watch was recently checked by Atelier des Tocantes, Paris, a specialized watchmaker, whose inspections confirmed the excellent working condition of the movement as well as its very good mechanical health.
