This Tiffany & Co. bracelet in 18K gold is a classic design from the Atlas collection. Inspired by the Atlas clock that stood in front of the Tiffany & Co. boutique for more than a century, the bracelet features the Roman numerals 3, 6, 9, and 12, framed by clean horizontal lines in a layout reminiscent of a clock face. The streamlined design uses open spaces to create silhouettes from lines and angles, with a hidden clasp smoothly integrated into one of the numerals.
The Atlas clock was sculpted in 1853 and was located at the corner of Prince Street and Broadway. The statue depicts the Greek god Atlas carrying a clock on his shoulders, referencing the myth in which he was condemned to bear the weight of the heavens. The clock became an iconic symbol of Tiffany & Co. and was known as the clock by which many New Yorkers set their watches. When Tiffany moved to Union Square in 1870, the clock followed; 35 years later, it was moved again, this time to the Fifth Avenue store. This clock has inspired many Tiffany & Co. pieces over the years, a perfect expression of the brand's timeless jewelry.
