14k gold medallion pendant depicting the profile of the Greek warrior Achilles. This small pendant was molded after an original Shiebler bracelet. The original charms, in silver, have been recreated in 14k gold, preserving the finesse of the details and a sharp profile of the warrior.
Shiebler was known for his Greek and Roman warriors and Homeric medallions, which were popular in the Victorian era. He imagined his pieces as ancient excavated treasures, and deliberately included indentations and signs of wear to create the illusion of an antique piece; these details are found on this 14k gold pendant.
According to Greek mythology, Achilles, as a baby, was dipped into the river Styx, a blessing that protected him from all harm except for his heel. He is often depicted as strong and handsome, wearing a feathered helmet sometimes adorned with a dragon.
