This small 14k gold Mars warrior pendant/charm was cast from an original Shiebler bracelet. We loved the small size and definition of the original bracelet charms, which were cast in silver, and wanted to recreate them in 14k gold. Shiebler was known for his Greek and Roman warriors and Homeric medallions, which were popular in the Victorian era. Shiebler warriors are hard to find, and we were able to retain the definition and sharp profile of the warrior. Shiebler envisioned his pieces as having been excavated from the earth, like ancient treasures from Greece or Rome, and he often deliberately included indentations and wear marks to create the illusion of an ancient piece. These details translated well onto the 14k gold pendants, and we love the antique character of these medallions.
This medallion features the profile of the Roman god Mars, also known as Ares in Greek mythology. Mars was the god of war and is often considered the archetype of masculinity and the counterpart to the goddess Venus.
