This wonderful ancient intaglio seal features a portrait in carved black agate, depicting a figure with a Greek-inspired profile. The engraving on the stone is well defined and the rendering is realistic. The care and detail of the hair, eyes, and the whole face suggest a stylistically antique piece.
The agate is set in a very old handmade silver sterling setting, shaped around the stone, with an organic look reminiscent of drapery. The handle of the seal is made of dark, solid hardwood, with a silver sterling tip at the end.
