Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback “Ovetto” ref. 3131.
14-carat yellow gold (585/1000), rare original black dial, original box, 1958.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Bubbleback “Ovetto” reference 3131 is among the most emblematic models in the history of the Geneva manufacture.
Produced in 1958, it belongs to that generation of Rolex watches that greatly helped establish the automatic Perpetual movement and the waterproof Oyster case, two major innovations that still shape the brand’s identity today.
Made in 14-carat yellow gold (585), this reference appeals with the harmonious proportions of its 32 mm case, whose volumes are remarkably well preserved.
Its characteristic domed caseback, at the origin of the nickname “Ovetto” (“little egg”) given by Italian collectors, is one of the most recognizable silhouettes in 20th-century watchmaking.
The main appeal of this example lies in its rare original glossy black dial. Much harder to find than the traditional silvered dials, it has remained entirely original and shows a remarkable state of preservation. Its gilt printing, its applied Roman numerals alternating with baton indexes, its peripheral railway minute track, as well as its gold dauphine hands, give it a timeless elegance.
Powered by its Rolex Perpetual automatic chronometer-certified movement, the watch was inspected by Atelier des Tocantes (Paris) in June 2026, with excellent timegrapher results.
It is fitted with a new black Camille Fournet crocodile strap with its original Rolex branded pin buckle and is accompanied by its original Rolex box as well as a carrying pouch.
