The Explorer was born in 1953, the year of the first ascent of Everest by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Reference 114270, produced from 2001 to 2010, is the 36 mm version of this line.
This 2005 example is offered in New Old Stock condition, unworn, preserved in its factory-fresh state. Black dial, baton hour markers and luminous Arabic numerals 3, 6, 9, luminous Mercedes hands. 36 mm steel case, smooth steel bezel, screw-down caseback, Triplock crown. Original steel Oyster bracelet, Rolex branded deployant clasp. Caliber 3130, automatic, 31 jewels, chronometer-certified, anti-magnetic, shock-resistant. Dial, case and movement branded Rolex.
