This unusual 14K gold locket, in a rectangular format, features two engraved Celtic animals. On one side, a serpent whose body twists and folds back on itself in a diamond shape; on the other, a creature with bird wings and a fish tail. Behind the two animals, stippling has acquired a beautiful patina that highlights the details of the engravings.
The locket opens, and the engraving work is visible on the other side of the gold. The original rectangular glass panels are still in place, held in gold frames; they can hold photographs and can be removed by pulling against the gold tabs.
Unique piece from the Victorian era, probably from Ireland, around the Victorian era.
Dimensions: 7/8” x 11/16”, plus a bail of 5 x 7 mm.
