19th-century memorial locket pendant in 18k gold and pearl
Oval memorial locket pendant in 18k yellow gold, with hinge and clasp, opening onto a glazed compartment intended to hold a personal keepsake (photograph, lock of hair, miniature). The front is adorned with a beveled square in rose gold holding a central pearl. The bail, in fluted yellow gold, has a carefully shaped curve. The whole piece displays two distinct tones of gold, the combination of yellow and rose being characteristic of jewelry taste in the second half of the 19th century.

Condition
Good overall condition for a piece of this age. A few slight surface dents and scratches on the inner glass, signs of genuine use. Slight traces of oxidation, localized on and around the rose gold: an expected and consistent phenomenon, as the copper more present in this alloy is naturally more sensitive to oxidation.
Please note: the hinge is positioned on the right, resulting in opening from the left side, an uncommon arrangement that points to individualized artisanal manufacture rather than serial production.
When the locket arrived, it still contained a lock of blond hair and a very old photograph of a young child. The piece had evidently not been opened for several decades.
