This charm/pendant was made from a 1920s button used as a mold, then cast in 14K gold.
The button features an Egyptian Revival motif: a goddess is depicted being carried on a palanquin or a fringed chariot, with a canine appearance. She holds an orb in front of her, perhaps to light the way, and she is surrounded by hieroglyphs, a bird, and eyes. The "ingot" shape is entirely filled with decorative elements, and the piece is rich in symbolism and cryptography, with a texture suggesting a discovery from a tomb.
The Egyptian Revival button used as a mold belongs to the third wave of Egyptian Revival, which flourished in the 1920s after the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb. Previous waves of this trend occurred in the 1840s and then in the 1890s, each time in response to the unearthing of Egyptian treasures. The archaeological discoveries of the 1920s brought this trend back into fashion.
