At first glance, this 14K gold necklace evokes an eye. Originally a Victorian-era navette ring, circa 1890, this piece has been carefully transformed into a necklace. Positioned horizontally, the navette shape takes on the appearance of an eye, sparkling with diamonds, with a vivid blue sapphire at the center serving as the pupil. The diamonds are superb antique Old Mine cuts, nearly colorless, with two larger Old European cut diamonds on either side of the sapphire. The stones are bead-set in 14K gold with a rosy hue. The sides of the navette feature գեղեցစ် openwork, and upon close inspection, one can see where the ring shank was carefully removed. The pendant is mounted on a 14K white gold chain with a lobster clasp. Eye-shaped amulets are often worn as talismans to ward off the evil eye, and this necklace can be worn as a good luck charm and protection.
The necklace contains 38 natural antique diamonds. The diamonds are nearly colorless, G-H in color and VS2-SI2 in clarity. The two largest diamonds are Old European cuts; the other diamonds are Old Mine cuts. Their sizes range from 2.1 to 3.25 mm. The total weight is approximately 2 carats of diamonds. The sapphire is a natural antique unheated sapphire from Cambodia. It measures 5.4 x 4.25 x 3.56 mm and weighs 0.65 carat. The sapphire is accompanied by GIA documents and bears GIA report number 2233645950. Slight abrasions on the surface of the sapphire are consistent with its age.
The navette pendant measures 1 1/4” x 5/16”. The chain measures 17”. The piece weighs 4.45 g. The chain is marked as 14K gold and Italian. The pendant is not hallmarked and tests as 14K gold.
