Hair comb, tiara, in tortoiseshell topped with an element in 18k yellow gold (hallmark: eagle's head) with a Greek meander motif adorned with a fine black enamel edging.
French work from the early 19th century, Empire style.

This antique comb is decorated with a Greek "meander." The Greek meander (Maiandros) is a motif that has existed since ancient Greece, found on temples, vases, carpets, or jewelry of that era, but also on neoclassical productions of the First Empire, at the beginning of the 19th century, like this tiara.
The repetition of a meander forms a frieze called the Greek Key, which symbolizes infinity due to its repetition.
