Elegant English Lever pocket watch, with a sterling silver case signed TPR and bearing the Chester 1900 hallmarks, which precisely date its production. The watch is fitted with a high-quality gilt movement, with a monometallic balance, micrometric regulation, and reversing pinion; the escapement is a verge type.
The English lever escapement is a mechanism that regulates the transfer of energy from the gear train to the balance wheel, allowing the movement to keep time in a regular and precise manner. The escape wheel pushes a lever in the shape of a “T” or “V,” which in turn gives impulses to the balance wheel. The balance wheel oscillates back and forth, controlling the gradual release of energy from the main spring.
This type of escapement is called “English” because it was standardized and widely used in English watch production in the 18th and 19th centuries.
