Elegant and historically significant ring branded Mauboussin Paris, dating from around 1945, at a fascinating moment in jewelry design marking the transition between the bold geometry of the Art Deco and the softer aesthetic that emerged in the immediate post-war period.
Crafted in 18-carat yellow gold, the ring features an architectural composition centered on a square motif with a rub-over setting of calibré-cut rubies, framed by a geometric surround of baguette-cut diamonds. The shoulders extend the design with additional graduated calibré-cut rubies, creating a refined continuity of color and structure.
The design illustrates the evolution of jewelry in the mid-1940s: the geometry of the Art Deco remains present, while the warmer tone of yellow gold and more sculptural volumes reflect the softening of the French post-war jewelry aesthetic.
Jewels from this precise period are exceptionally rare, as production during and immediately after the war was very limited, making surviving branded examples from the great Parisian houses particularly sought after by collectors.
The ring is branded Mauboussin Paris, numbered, and remains in very good overall condition with a beautiful period character.
