Jacques Camus (1893-1971)
Jacques Camus is an emblematic French painter of the Art Deco period. Active in the 1920s, he befriended influential artists of his time such as Jean Cocteau, Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, and Moïse Kisling. He shared with them a sensitivity for the synthesis between art and the art of living, where painting, decor, fashion, and design closely interact.
His work is representative of the Art Deco aesthetic of the interwar period: balanced compositions mixing stylized figures, refined decors, and graphic elements with geometric lines, always in a palette of bright colors.
