French Victorian bar brooch, circa 1860, in warm 18-carat yellow gold, adorned with a scarab set with precious stones. The elytra are made of two deep burgundy cabochon garnets, while the thorax is set with rose-cut diamonds and tiny senelles on a silver mount. The ruby eyes give it a mischievous and alert expression, and a single pearl softens the line of the bar. Once the elytra are slightly opened, it seems less fixed than immediately prompted to stay in place.
