French gold brooch with bezel-set tourmaline and diamonds
The brooch contains an unidentified French hallmark, as well as an eagle's head, the French mark for 18-karat gold. The tourmaline measures 8.5 x 7.5 and approximately 2 carats. The 10 natural rose-cut diamonds weigh 0.10 carats. The pin measures 2 3/8" x 3/16" and weighs 6.2 grams.
Circa 1870, this magnificent French brooch features a pink tourmaline like picenterpiece, flanked by triangles studded with rose-cut diamonds along a horizontal 18-carat gold pin. The inner shape is set with platinum, delineating and enhancing the white of the diamond pearl set in its borders. The outer triangle adds a layer of depth to the gold, creating a sleek, well-balanced geometric pin.
The back of the pin contains traces of solder from an early repair. This pièce would look great on the lapel of a denim jacket or leather blazer.
