Antique 18-carat rose gold (750 thousandths) ratchet clasp, stamped with two hallmarks. Regional French Provençal workmanship, from the first half of the 19th century, around 1830. It is in the shape of a hollow openwork sphere, adorned with a fine cannetille decoration in beautiful relief. Embellished with a beaded design at each end.
This type of sentimental clasp was generally given at weddings and was used in the creation of "slave necklaces".

Condition: very good, with slight signs of use: a small dent with a tiny tear in the gold on the edge, a small hole on one end. The tongue has probably been repaired, jewelry cleaned/polished. The clasp closes very well and remains securely in place without any play. This is a very rare collector's piece, about 200 years old.
