Dangling earrings in Etruscan Revival style, circa 1940s, adorned with Australian opals set in an acanthus leaf motif. The graphic cut-outs, engraved lines, and twisted wire patterns echo iconic codes of the Etruscan Revival, creating remarkable texture and detail. The opals have a white base with the characteristic play of color of Australian opals.
Etruscan Revival jewelry design was popular during the Victorian era; here, it is reinterpreted with a Mid-Century touch. The style dates back to the 1800s, when major excavation sites near Rome uncovered jewelry from Etruscan tombs. The Etruscans were master craftsmen, creating jewelry pieces using gold wire and granulation. News of these excavations and the treasures they contained spread throughout Europe, leading to a rapid rise of the Etruscan Revival.
True to the Etruscan Revival aesthetic, these earrings have a striking presence. They measure 1.5” from top to bottom. They retain their original, elongated hooks, offering good support for the dangling part.
