Remarkable mechanical clip in 14-carat gold for handkerchief or dress train, made in the shape of an eagle's head. The mechanical mouth opens and closes to secure a handkerchief or a dress train. A ring at the end features a lever which, when operated, opens and closes the eagle's mouth.
The eagle's head is finely sculpted, with a pronounced forehead and delicate feathers. The hexagonal stem leading to the lever is decorated with hand-engraved repeating patterns.

The item is presented in its original case, lined with red satin and black velvet, measuring 4" x 1 1/2".
Typical personal accessory from the Victorian era: the ring is worn on the finger, while a handkerchief or dress train is secured in the eagle's beak. It can also be worn on a chain as a pendant.
Circa 1880. No hallmark, but tested as 14-carat gold.
