Elizabeth Gage (1937)

Elizabeth Gage has been a major figure in British jewelry since the 1970s, recognized for her distinctive reinterpretations of historical and cultural styles.

She studied design at the Chelsea School of Art in London and at Sir John Cass College, before training as a goldsmith. After six years in the profession, she received her first major commission in 1968, designing a collection for Cartier New York. She then founded her own company and opened a boutique in central London.

With iconic pieces such as the Tapered Templar Rings and the Agincourt Rings, she won the De Beers Diamonds International Award in 1972, consolidating her reputation in the world of high jewelry. In 1989, she received the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement.

Since 2013, Gage has been part of the permanent jewelry collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, which acquired two of her pieces. Often inspired by Antiquity, she is known for her bold creations, with richly textured gold, brightly colored cabochon stones, and intricate enamel work.
