This highly versatile chain features an original link design and stunning natural pearls from the Mississippi River. The chain alternates between a “dog bone” link and an oblong link connected by joining rings at each end. It is an unusual, very pretty, and delicate mesh. Starting from the top of the chain, the natural river pearls increase in size; each is placed opposite a pearl of similar size to create symmetry. The pearls are baroque, with an organic and free form. They display delicate rainbow opalescent reflections and luminous white nacre, in excellent condition.
The long continuous 14K gold chain measures 57 inches. It can be worn in one, two, or even three loops around the neck, with many options for pearl placement, and layers beautifully with other necklaces. Weight: 34.5 g.
The natural pearls from the Mississippi River were found years ago during the mother-of-pearl button rush in Muscatine, Iowa. It is a curious and little-known fact that in the early 1900s, beautiful pearls could be found in this Mississippi town, Muscatine, Iowa. Muscatine was the source of 40% of all mother-of-pearl buttons in the world. River pearls are now incredibly rare and Mississippi pearl jewelry is hard to find. Intrigued by these pearls, we sent them to the GIA for certification. The pearls came back identified as natural white baroque freshwater pearls, from the Unionidae mollusk family. The large size of these pearls makes them even rarer, as it is difficult to find pearls that have remained long enough in a natural habitat without being disturbed to reach this size.
