Circa the 1840's, the centerpiece of this 14k gold bracelet is a heart shape padlock clasp with a garnet carbuncle. The garnet is prong set and surrounded by a vine leaf motif that intertwines with the prongs. The padlock is also a locket with a back panel that pops out to hold a picture. The locket is clasped onto a beautiful rolo link bracelet, handmade with incredible push-up—each link was pounded onto a mold and then bent into circular links patterned with flowers and vines.
The bracelet is 8 1/4” and weighs 19 grams. The extra length allows the heart padlock to dangle on the wrist. The bracelet and padlock test as 14k gold. The garnet carbuncle measures 11.5 x 7.5 x 7.5 mm. The piece is in great shape for its age, with some minor wear to some of the links. The heart padlock has a push button to open and pops shut. The padlock measures 5/8” x 1 1/8”.
