Important antique pendant medal in solid 18-carat yellow gold, 750/1000 fineness, stamped with partial hallmarks, exempt from inspection. branded “Dropsy” for the renowned engraver Émile Dropsy (1848-1923). French work Art Deco from the 1930s.
Oval in shape, it depicts on the front Virgin Mary Mary in profile holding the Child Jesus in her arms, very finely rendered with beautiful relief. Enhanced around the edge with a very beautiful chiseled border. On the reverse, it is engraved with a monogramme “HA” accompanied by the date “28.4.35”.
Émile Dropsy was rewarded twice for his qualities as an engraver. He took up religious subjects to turn them into true works of art and today appears as “the purest of religious medalists and the most sincere of landscape artists”.
