Vintage French necklace in Egyptian revival style, composed of a multicolored set of cabochons carved into scarabs. Between each scarab cabochon is an 18-carat gold molded nugget, with a texture and shape that mimic a natural gold nugget. Some cabochons feature, on their underside, carved hieroglyphs evoking the writing of ancient Egypt.
Two main stones catch the eye: a larger carnelian-agate with a pale peach top and a deep red base layer, as well as a larger iridescent lapis lazuli. The other, slightly smaller stones include:
- Tourmaline
- Purple sapphire
- Chrysoprase
- Labradorite
- Black onyx
- Opal
- Quartzite
- Dyed blue hardstone
- Dyed blue-green chalcedony
All the stones are bezel-set and carefully arranged on the necklace.
Length: 25 inches. Width of the two largest stones: 3/4 inch. Most of the smaller stones measure about 1/4 inch wide. Weight: 62.5 g.
The necklace is hallmarked with an owl head and "75", the French hallmark for 18-carat gold exported from Paris.
