This Edwardian lavaliere necklace in platinum features four antique Old Mine Cut diamonds and a diamond-set halo element. The chain is composed of twisted bar links in a figure-eight shape, connected by small links. A horizontally placed elliptical halo-like element is set on the front with small rose-cut diamonds, with diamonds set on the reverse as well so that the lower part of the ellipse is also set, creating the illusion of a continuous line of diamonds all around the halo. The halo has a 14 ct gold back. Quatre larger diamonds hang from the halo—two on each side—bezel set and connected by the figure-eight link found in the chain. The largest diamonds are beautiful antique Old Mine Cut diamonds, generously square in shape, with very high tables and very large open culets.
Negligee necklaces became popular in the late Victorian era and remained so throughout the Edwardian era. They are characterized by two parallel but asymmetrical pendants, often suspended from an openwork or geometric element, evoking the fluidity of an evening gown.
The necklace contains four antique natural Old Mine Cut diamonds and 13 antique natural rose-cut diamonds. The Old Mine Cut diamonds each measure approximately 3.3 x 3.3 x 3 mm, and the rose-cut diamonds each measure 1.5 mm. The necklace has an estimated total diamond weight of approximately 1 ct. The diamonds are J-K in color and VS2-SI1 in clarity. The necklace measures 15 1/4 inches in length and weighs 3.64 g.
