Designed by Louis Cartier in 1924, the Trinity ring has become an iconic model. The bands represent love, friendship, and fidelity, and the three intertwine gracefully to symbolize life’s most important relationships. Overlapping in a knot reminiscent of the infinity symbol, the bands can also represent the interconnection of the past, present, and future. The bands are in three golds: white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold, each with a lovely patina. The bands slide onto the finger by rolling over one another, and part of the ring’s charm lies in the fact that it can be handled, with the bands able to be pushed back and forth.
The Trinity ring was originally designed for the French poet and playwright Jean Cocteau. Hollywood icons such as Grace Kelly and Gary Cooper were also known to wear this ring, and over the last century, this design has become an emblem of timelessness. Slight variations were incorporated into the model over the decades in order to keep pace with evolving jewelry trends.
Each band measures 3.9 mm in thickness. The ring weighs 11.6 g. The inside of the rose gold band is marked 750, size 54, as well as with the serial number MV216S. It is marked 97 for the year 1997 and also bears the copyright. Each band still bears, on the outside, the French maker’s mark and the eagle’s head hallmark; this ring therefore has all the sought-after hallmarks for a 1997 piece.
