Victorian brooch in 14-carat gold with blond human hair. Ordered panels of blond human hair, tightly woven, are placed between two beveled windows of carved crystal, held by a gold mount setting. A beautiful example of Victorian hair jewelry.
Hair jewelry, for mourning or remembrance, was popular in the mid-1800s. Since photography was not easily available and portraits were expensive, these treasures were made so that one could keep a small part of a loved one with them.
