Dating from the 1880s, this 14K gold bracelet combines two popular Victorian symbols of love — the buckle and ivy — in a refined design expressing sentiment and eternal love. The jewel features fine, tight enameling; the cobalt blue ivy, in scrolls, is intertwined with black leaves creating a subtle contrast. Beneath the enamel, a hand-applied stippled texture, with crisp, precise sections of smooth surface highlighting the top and bottom. The centerpiece is a detailed buckle, a Victorian motif representing transcendent love.
The bracelet features beautiful construction and pronounced three-dimensionality. The buckle is carefully crafted and attached to the jewel with eyelets. The back of the bracelet is plain, without dents, despite its age. It closes with a secure hidden clasp, seamlessly integrated.
Ivy is frequently present in Victorian jewelry to represent love, fidelity, and devotion.
