Around the 1880s, this 14K gold Etruscan-style bracelet features a lover's knot motif adorned with pearls and garnets. The central part is composed of matching and graduated curb links, which extend from the main section to smaller, tighter links on the outside. The links are decorated with a wavy twisted wire work, in a serpentine manner, that wraps around the links and creates an illusion of movement. Small circles and granulation bring elaborate decoration to the surface of the gold, in a lovely Etruscan-style detail. This is an unusual design with romantic symbolism. The bracelet appears to be created by two entities: one adorned with pearls, the other with garnets. The lover's knots intertwine to the point where it is difficult to tell where one begins and the other ends.
The links are in 14K gold. They are hollow but skillfully crafted, and the gold seems to be rolled over itself. A concealed clasp continues the design of the curb links. The clasp is very sturdy and has a safety chain. It shows a few dents, but they are not visible when the piece is worn and, as the clasp is original and still in very good condition, it has not been modified in order to preserve the integrity of the piece.
The bracelet weighs 10.3 g. The widest links measure 13/16” and the narrowest 1/4”. It has 8 pearls and 8 garnets. The bracelet fits a wrist from 5 3/4” to 6 1/2”.
