The négligé necklace appeared at the end of the 19th century and reached its height during the Belle Époque. Its name comes from the deliberate asymmetry of its drops, designed to create an effect of natural movement and lightness. The advent of platinum allowed jewelers to create settings of a fineness previously impossible, giving the illusion that the diamonds floated on the skin.
The old-cut diamonds that make up this necklace were hand-cut to reveal all their beauty under candlelight and later under the first electric lighting. Their soft and deep fire, very different from that of modern cuts, gives this jewel a romantic charm and exceptional historical presence.
