Dating from around 1910, this Belle Époque engagement ring is designed around two old brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.90 ct in total. Their delicately distinctive character is complemented by a smaller central diamond and rose-cut diamond accents set in flowing leaf-shaped shoulders. The openwork motif gives the ring an elegant lightness on the hand.

  • Type of jewelry: ring.
  • Condition: very good condition.
  • Country of origin: unknown.
  • Style: Belle Époque jewelry. This style refers to jewelry from the late 1890s to 1914. Its typical characteristics include openwork in platinum, laurel garlands and festoons, pavé-set diamonds, millegrain, and detachable pendants. Typical motifs include garlands, bows, laurel festoons, ribbons, and floral swags. The style was influenced by 18th-century French ornamentation, international exhibitions, the expansion of the luxury market, the culture of theater and balls, the illustrated luxury press, and work in platinum.
  • Style specifics: Belle Époque means “beautiful era” and refers to the period preceding the First World War. In jewelry, it is associated with elegance, refinement, lightness, platinum, diamonds, lace-like settings, garlands, and bows. The Belle Époque flourished in Europe from the late 19th century until 1914. It is marked by luxury, social display, new technologies, and a taste for refined decoration. In jewelry, it often overlaps with the Edwardian and Garland Style styles.
