An exceptional late 19th-century ring from the Victorian period, centered with an exceptional Burmese pink spinel of approximately 5 carats, entirely natural and unheated.
This museum-quality gemstone stands out for its vibrant, deeply saturated raspberry-pink color, as well as its absolute purity, 100% clean, an extremely rare characteristic for a spinel of this size from the historic mines of Mogok.
From the historic mines of Mogok, the “Valley of Rubies,” this entirely unheated spinel is exceptionally rare at this weight: untreated Burmese spinels over 5 carats are among the rarest colored gemstones on the international market.
For centuries, spinel was mistaken for ruby; several famous “rubies” in the Crown Jewels are in fact spinels.
The original yellow gold setting features genuine old mine-cut diamonds on each side, along with chiselled shoulders that reflect the distinctive elegance of 19th-century Portuguese goldsmithing. A rare collector’s piece, ideal for investors and lovers of unique historical jewels.
The entirely gold setting and the open-back mountings confirm a period origin, dating from the end of the Victorian era.
Combining exceptional provenance, natural beauty, and documented rarity in its original setting, this jewel is intended for the discerning collector of important colored gemstones, both a museum-quality piece and a safe-haven asset.
