This ring most likely dates from the 1940s, a time when jewelry was crafted in an imposing and opulent manner. The combination of solid yellow gold, diamonds set in a geometric fashion, and a large opal cabochon fits perfectly into the post-war years, marked by Hollywood glamour and generous designs. The wide setting and slightly architectural shape evoke the beginnings of the Retro style, particularly appreciated in the United States and England.
The centerpiece is a spectacular cabochon opal of about 14 carats. Its play of color is in pastel tones, with green, blue, and yellow reflections on a milky background. The opal is laterally framed by a total of four diamonds, in baguette and round cuts (two on each side), set in classic white gold settings. The jewel is made of 585 yellow gold (14K).
The ring has been cleaned, restored, and inspected by a jewelry workshop. The opal is very well preserved, with no dehydration cracks, and displays a uniform play of color. The gold surfaces have been gently polished while retaining the vintage character.
This is a statement ring that stands on its own. Despite its size, it is comfortable on the finger and the wide band distributes the weight well.
