This vintage cluster ring combines warm 14-karat gold with deep red garnets. Dating from around 1950-1970, it features an oval garnet surrounded by a mix of square-cut and marquise-cut garnets, for a total of approximately 1.70 ct.

  • Garnets: approximately 1.70 ct.
  • Material: 14-karat gold.
  • Ring size: 53 (FR), resizable within reasonable limits.
  • Weight: 3.3 g.
  • Condition: very good condition, lightly worn with small signs of wear.
  • Period of creation: mid-20th century.
  • Historical context: the 1950s were a period of major cultural and technological change, marked by the emergence of rock 'n' roll, the birth of the Beat Generation, the launch of Sputnik, and the beginning of the space race. These events, along with the awareness of living in the nuclear age, contributed to the development of an aesthetic called the Atomic Age, reflected in various fields of design, including jewelry.
  • In 1947, Christian Dior introduced a new style in fashion, restoring a more feminine silhouette and rejecting the dark styles popular during the war. This new look, with a fitted bodice, a neckline, and a full skirt flowing from a cinched waist, called for a renewed aesthetic for the jewelry and accessories that accompanied it. The jewelry of this period was characterized by a tendency toward more elaborate and ornate pieces.
  • To complement this elegant style, diamonds set in platinum were often worn at the feminine neckline and on the ears, newly highlighted by upswept hairstyles held in place with diamond clips. The DeBeers Diamond Corporation sustained the demand for diamonds with its “A Diamond is Forever” campaign, promoting the use of diamonds at all income levels, particularly among a rapidly growing middle class. It also rewarded jewelers around the world who incorporated beauty, design, function, and diamonds into modern compositions.
  • Main material: garnet.
  • Garnet, known for its deep red hue, is a stone that symbolizes passion, energy, and protection. Although it is commonly associated with its rich red color, garnet exists in various shades, including green, orange, and even rare blue.
  • Garnet has a long history of use, dating back to ancient Egypt, where it was worn by pharaohs as a symbol of life and power. In Roman times, garnets were often set in signet rings used to stamp wax seals on important documents. The stone was also reputed to protect travelers and warriors.
  • In jewelry, garnet's durability, with a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7.5, and its remarkable color make it a valued choice for rings, necklaces, and earrings.
  • 14-karat gold is a popular and practical choice in jewelry, recognized for its durability, more accessible price, and beautiful color. The term 14 karats means that the gold is composed of 58.3% pure gold and 41.7% alloy metals, such as copper, silver, nickel, or zinc.
  • Historically, gold has always been a symbol of wealth and luxury. 14-karat gold offers a balance between the rich appearance of gold and the strength needed for everyday wear. Due to its lower gold content than 18- or 24-karat gold, it is more affordable.
  • 14-karat yellow gold has a warm golden hue. 14-karat white gold is made by alloying gold with white metals such as nickel or palladium, and it is often rhodium-plated. 14-karat rose gold is made by mixing gold with copper, which gives it a pinkish hue.
  • 14-karat gold is commonly used for rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and watches. Its durability makes it particularly suitable for pieces worn daily, such as Wedding bands and engagement rings.
