Remarkable belcher ring from the Edwardian era (circa 1917), set with an impressive old-cut diamond Solitaire.
The prongs of a belcher ring are carved directly into the gold of the head and form openwork petal-shaped sections around the stone, sometimes described as wavy (like the edges of a scallop shell, I suppose).
This type of ring probably gets its name from James "Jem" Belcher (*1781 +1811), an English master boxer active between 1800 and 1805.
This ring is made of 14-carat rose gold and features a beautiful, imposing size, suitable for all hand sizes.
