This delicate little hand mirror was made in Austria with its original beveled glass, guilloché work in silver sterling, and 14 kt yellow gold inlaid elements. A deep royal blue color decorates one side of the mirror; the oval mirror can be removed, and a guilloché pattern lies beneath it. This hand mirror is not quite a locket, but it does feature a secret hidden space beneath the mirror. This attention to detail reflects the impeccable craftsmanship of this piece.
The mirror shows some deterioration, but this crackled effect is normal given its age and adds charm to the piece. It still functions as a mirror, but could be resilvered if you wish. The oval mirror measures 1 1/2 inches, and the piece measures 3 inches in total, including the small bail for attaching it to a chain.
There are several marks on the upper ring of the hand mirror, including 900, which corresponds to the silver hallmark. A bird-head hallmark with a 2 indicates that this piece is Austrian, circa 1922. The white enamel on the piece is in very good condition, and the blue enamel retains a vivid color. The silver is smooth to the touch, making this piece a beautiful decorative object that can be worn or displayed.
