Art Deco - Sacred Heart medallion pendant in 18K gold and painted enamel
On the front of this medallion, an image of Jesus pointing to the Sacred Heart is delicately hand-painted. In the background, a cobalt blue enamel halo is enhanced with a fine cream white enamel border around the edge of the medallion. The details are remarkable for the size of the scene, down to the fingers and eyelashes visible up close. The enamel is set flush: a cavity has been engraved in the medallion so that the enamel is level with the surface.
Probably of European origin, this medallion dates from the period Art Deco (1920s-1930s). On the back, the date "5-25-1932" is engraved, as well as the initials "ECG".
