Antique Victorian style yellow gold, opal and diamond ring with enamel
Elegant antique Victorian opal and diamond ring (circa 1880s-1900s) crafted in 18k yellow gold.
The cabochon-cut opals measure 2 to 7 mm. The angel skin coral measures 12 mm x 5.5 mm. The old-cut and rose-cut diamonds are estimated to weigh approximately 0.04 to 0.05 carats. The total diamond weight is estimated at 1.25 carats (LM color and SI2-I2 clarity). The opals are in good condition and free of cracks and chips.
With a row of colorful opals in the center and a black enamel rim, the old-cut diamonds offer a beautiful sparkle with every movement of the ring. This elongated, understated cocktail ring fits the hand perfectly (3.5 mm in height). Seven diamonds (rose cuts) have been replaced over the years, with one diamond being recessed in the setting. Given its age, we decided not to replace the diamond and leave it intact in its setting. The ring was also resized and its band was remade (in 14 karat gold).
The ring is in good condition. We have not cleaned it to preserve its patina and collectible value.
Weight: 5.8 grams
Size and Dimensions: The ring is a size 5 1/2 (true to size). The setting measures 23.5 mm long (0.92 inches) and 13 mm wide (0.51 inches), rising 3.5 mm from the finger.
Metal and Hallmark: 18k yellow gold. The ring is not hallmarked, although a positive 18k gold test was performed. The band has been resized and remade in 14k yellow gold.
