- Weight: 2.8 g.

- Period of creation: mid-20th century.
- Historical and design context: the 1950s were a period of major cultural and technological change, marked by the emergence of rock 'n' roll, the birth of the Beat Generation, the launch of Sputnik, and the beginning of the space race. These events, along with the awareness of living in the nuclear age, contributed to the development of an aesthetic known as the Atomic Age, which was reflected in various fields of design, particularly jewelry.
- In 1947, Christian Dior introduced a new silhouette in fashion, more feminine, rejecting the dark styles popular during the war. This new look, with a fitted bodice and a neckline above a full skirt starting from a very defined waist, called for a new aesthetic for the jewelry and accessories that accompanied it. Jewelry from this period was characterized by a tendency toward more elaborate and ornate pieces.
- To complement this elegant and refined look, diamonds set in platinum were often worn at the neckline and on the ears, newly revealed by upswept hairstyles held in place with diamond clips. The DeBeers Diamond Corporation ensured that demand for diamonds remained strong through its “A Diamond is Forever” campaign, promoting the use of diamonds at all income levels, especially among a rapidly growing middle class. It also rewarded jewelers around the world who incorporated beauty, design, functionality, and diamonds into their modern creations.
- Main material: carnelian.
- Materials and craftsmanship: carnelian, with its warm, fiery shades ranging from deep red to orange, is a stone that symbolizes vitality, courage, and creativity. This variety of chalcedony has been prized for millennia for its intense color and energizing properties, making it a sought-after stone in antique jewelry as well as modern jewelry.
- Historically, carnelian has been revered by many cultures. In ancient Egypt, it was known as the “stone of the sunset” and was believed to protect the deceased on their journey to the afterlife. It was also used in signet rings, seals, and amulets, often engraved with symbols of power and authority. In Roman times, carnelian was a popular material for engraving intaglios, used to imprint wax seals on important documents.
