These picturesque Art Nouveau earrings in 18-carat yellow gold and plique-à-jour enamel reveal, through a glass pane, the fleeting reverie of a meadow of irises sparkling with brilliant and rose-cut diamonds. Almost swirling through the gold setting, these graceful irises are eager to climb onto the neck of their future goddess.
Antique jewelry object group:
long dangling earrings
However, it was clear from the outset that this piece was no longer in its original form when it was offered to us. It had been transformed into a small artifact, as shown in the photo with the hand presenting it. We therefore adapted the two plique-à-jour covers to make a pair of earrings, in perfect harmony with the era of their creation, namely Art Nouveau.

Style:
Art Nouveau - Art Nouveau (French for New Style) is an international movement and style of art, architecture, and applied art – especially the decorative arts – that reached its peak in popularity at the turn of the 20th century (1890-1905).
The term "Art Nouveau" means "new art" in French. It is also called Jugendstil, which means "youth style" in German, after the magazine Jugend which promoted it, and in Italy, Stile Liberty after the London department store Liberty & Co., which popularized this style, and in the Netherlands, "Sla-olie-stijl," meaning "salad oil style," after an advertising poster for this product made in this style.
As a reaction to the academic art of the 19th century, it is characterized by organic motifs, notably floral and plant-inspired, as well as fluid and stylized curvilinear forms. Art Nouveau is an approach to design in which artists should work on all aspects, from architecture to furniture, integrating art into daily life. Although Art Nouveau fell out of favor with the advent of 20th-century modernist styles, it is now considered an important bridge between the historicism of Neoclassicism and Modernism.

Technique:
Enameling is an ancient and widely used technique. The Egyptians of Antiquity applied enamels to pottery and stone objects. The Greeks, Celts, Russians, and Chinese of Antiquity also used enameling processes on metal objects. Enamel is the colorful result of fusing powdered glass onto a substrate by firing, generally between 750 and 850 °C. The powder melts, flows, and hardens to form a smooth, durable glassy coating on metal, glass, or ceramic. According to some sources, the word enamel comes from the High German smelzan (to melt) via Old French esmail. Used as a noun, "an enamel" refers to a generally small decorative object covered with a layer of enamel, such as a champlevé or cloisonné (different techniques).
Plique-à-jour (or "braid letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, like cloisonné, but without a backing in the finished product, so that light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It has the appearance of stained glass and is considered very technically difficult. (From: Wikipedia)
