This early 20th-century Art Nouveau engagement ring, dating from around 1900, is a captivating embodiment of style and romance. Its two-tone band harmoniously marries 18-carat yellow gold with touches of white, showcasing an old European cut diamond, complemented by 22 old brilliant cuts and six Oriental saltwater cultured pearls. The design highlights the whiplash curves and organic motifs characteristic of the era, capturing the very essence of integrating art into everyday life.

Style
Art Nouveau - Art Nouveau (French for New Style) is an international movement and a style of art, architecture, and applied art—especially the decorative arts—which reached its peak popularity at the turn of the 20th century (1890-1905).
The term "Art Nouveau" means "new art" in French. It is also called Jugendstil, which means "youth style" in German, after the magazine Jugend that promoted it, and in Italy, Stile Liberty from the London department store Liberty & Co., which popularized this style, and in the Netherlands, "Sla-olie-stijl," meaning "salad oil style," after an advertising poster for this product made in this style.
A reaction to 19th-century academic art, it is characterized by organic motifs, especially floral and plant-inspired, as well as fluid, stylized curvilinear forms. Art Nouveau is an approach to design in which artists should work on all aspects, from architecture to furniture, integrating art into everyday life. Although Art Nouveau fell out of favor with the advent of 20th-century modernist styles, it is now considered an important bridge between the historicism of neoclassicism and modernism.

Style specifics
Art Nouveau – Although Art Nouveau adopted distinctly localized trends as its geographic spread expanded, certain general characteristics are revealing of this form. A description published in the magazine Pan of the Cyclamen wall hanging (1894) by Hermann Obrist describes it as "sudden and violent curves generated by the crack of a whip," which became famous at the beginning of Art Nouveau.
Subsequently, not only did the work itself become better known as Whiplash, but the term "whiplash" is frequently applied to the characteristic curves used by Art Nouveau artists. These decorative motifs, formed of dynamic, undulating, and fluid lines with a syncopated rhythm, are found in architecture, painting, sculpture, and other forms of Art Nouveau design.
