Jean-Claude Champagnat was trained by his father, who was also a jewelry designer. Champagnat also apprenticed in various other workshops. From a young age, Champagnat learned from Jean Dubuffet that it was essential not to conform to conventions. Champagnat was known for being a Solitaire. He had a workshop at 25, rue des Acacias in Paris (France). The revolutionary exhibition of 1961, "International Exhibition of Modern Jewelry, 1890-1961," held at the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in London, United Kingdom, featured 12 rings and 2 brooches by Champagnat.
