Around 1920, a pair of drop earrings in platinum and 18-carat yellow gold, transitional between the end of the Belle Époque and the beginning of Art Deco. Each earring is adorned with an oval sapphire, with a total weight of approximately 12.40 carats, set in a fine border of 58 diamonds and suspended from a diamond-set pendant. The openwork back and delicate beading give these earrings a light appearance, while the clarity of the oval shapes heralds the coming decade.

Style
Transitional style between late Belle Époque and early Art Deco, approximately from the 1910s to the early 1920s. See also: Art Deco.
The Belle Époque (which means "Beautiful Era" in French) is a retrospective label denoting European taste from the late 19th century until 1914, often associated in jewelry with lightness, elegance, and a preference for refined sparkle that then gives way to the geometry of early Art Deco.
Overview of stylistic periods: stylistic periods
Style specifics
This piece stands at the crossroads of the late Belle Époque and the beginning of Art Deco, combining the lightness of the Belle Époque with the first sharper and more structured lines.
Belle Époque
In jewelry, Belle Époque design is generally airy and refined, often using platinum or platinum-plated gold, with diamonds set in openwork and finished with very fine details, for example millegrain motifs, garlands and ribbons, bows, and lace effects.
Early Art Deco
Early Art Deco favors more pronounced geometry and symmetry, sharper lines, and stronger contrasts, while retaining precious materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Among its typical characteristics are tiered shapes, a more architectural arrangement, and accent stones placed with precision.
