Lava jewelry was a must souvenir among the Grand Tour Tourists of the 19th century in Italy.
In different colors, always in classical subjects sometimes they achieve a masterpiece quality for the detailed hand-work engraving. Here we have a wonderful Top Quality and very detailed antique lava cameos earrings representing a Baccante (Bacchus dancing followers during the wine festival).
They are mounted in 14K filigree gold. The expressing face is surrounded by wine grapes and leaves. Very carefully carved and full of beautiful details.
A true museum-worthy jewel-yet still something one can hold, wear and cherish across generations. A typical Grand Tour souvenir from Naples. End of the 19th century. We bought them from a family collection in Rome. An hold hallmark is on the hooks. 14K Gold (touchstone tested).They are in perfect condition.
